DALLAS — Falyn Lott loves to compete. She also loves to win.
The Frisco Panther Creek senior was named the “Athlete of the Meet” at the Class 4A UIL State Track meet after winning both the 300m hurdles and long jump competition. She also placed second in the 100m hurdles.
“I felt like in a way it wasn’t my competitors that were holding me back, it was myself,” Lott said. “I just had to leave them out of it and just focus on me, so doing what I did is a sense of relief.”
Lott said she’s always loved sports, but also realized late in her high school career that team sports weren’t her thing.
“I like individual sports. I like the whole thing to be just about what I can do, what I can control. I don’t want to have to worry about a team,” Lott said.
Lott got an early start on her track and field career, because of her dad. James Lott was a NCAA champion high jumper at the University of Texas in the late 1980s.
“My dad has always preached that he wants us to go to college on a full scholarship,” said Falyn Lott about her dad’s influence. “He’s always wanted me to be a track athlete, and he’s definitely one of my bigger supporters.”
Lott will compete in track and field while attending the University of Southern California next year.
