Elena Garcia owns a condo on Redington Beach and has been a vocal critic of the amendment, saying it deprives older residents and those with young families the ability to enjoy the beach while also having protection from the sun.
“What I’ve learned is, this is really not a problem,” Garcia said. “This is really just the voice of a few people that live on Redington Beach that are really wanting to move toward a privatizing of their section of the beach.”
Numerous attempts to get comments from the Town of Redington Beach have gone unanswered.
Garcia started a petition against the ordinance amendment on change.org which now has 349 signatures.
Even though the second reading will not happen at Wednesday night’s meeting, some residents are expected to speak out against it during the public comments section of the meeting.
