Deputies responded to the 14000 block of Cactus Wren Place in Tampa after receiving reports of a shooting. Chronister said a woman called 911 saying her son just shot her husband.

Shortly after five deputies arrived at the scene, they said the son shot his mother outside of the house.

Chronister said he later shot at deputies before retreating back into the house.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff said SWAT team members later found the son dead from injuries he suffered during the shootout. The one deputy who was shot was taken to a nearby trauma center.

Chronister asked the community to keep the five deputies in their thoughts this Father's Day.

"You can imagine the trauma that these five deputies and the responding deputies, again along with the amazing men and women with fire rescue who came out and, again, continued these life-saving measures and rushed our deputy to the hospital to make sure he left here with his life this evening," he said.

Chronister said the family had made 10 calls for service in the past — two for mental health concerns with the son.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the shooting.
