SPRING HILL, Fla. — It’s a little piece of peace in Spring Hill — Nature Coast Botanical Gardens and Nursery.

What used to be a dumping ground filled with trash, volunteers have transformed 3.5 acres into 21 individual gardens that guests can stroll through and enjoy the beauty of nature.

What You Need To Know

  • Nature Coast Botanical Gardens is located at 1489 Parker Avenue in Spring Hill

  • It is open daily, seven days a week, from dawn until dusk

  • Plant sales are available Monday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Guided tours are also available, and weddings are welcome. Events are also held at the gardens, including the Hernando Symphony brass quintet playing on select Saturdays and Sundays. The band will be playing there next on Saturday, June 29, starting at 10 a.m.

The gardens are free and open to the public seven days a week.

The nursery is also open for plant purchases on Mondays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. All proceeds go to the upkeep of the gardens.

And thanks to the volunteer efforts, the gardens will remain free for guests to enjoy.

Kathy Wolfe and Mary Wuest help manage the gardens and nursery.

They weed, they water, they plant and propagate — all to see nature in action.

“If you’ve got any worries or anything, it’s gone,” Wolf said. “It’s best therapy, and it’s free.”

If you love gardening, they say volunteers are always welcome and needed to help with the upkeep. Volunteers can even take ownership of an individual garden.
