PLANT CITY, Fla. — Big things are coming for Plant City. As the number of people moving to the area increases, a lot of change comes with it. too.
Thanks to more than $5 million from the governor’s office, the city is using the money to open light industrial and commercial land.
Gregg Williams, owner of Brick City Bricks in Plant City, says he’s noticed how new development in the area is making a difference.
He’s seen customers from all walks of life, people who live in the area and some who travel long distances.
“The more people working in the area, the more people living in the area, it’s just a bigger attraction for Plant City,” Williams said.
He said his own business is about being creative and having fun.
“A smiley face, an angry face, one with a beard, one without a beard, then you get to pick a hair, a hat,” he says.
“We love dealing with the children,” he said. “You know, Legos are big with the kids, big with autism, big with STEM, so a lot of educational and I’ll also get a lot of teachers in here.”
He is grateful that the state is providing funding for his small town.
The recent funding for the city could help create more than 2,000 jobs.
That’s something Gregg hopes will spark good change for the residents who own businesses.
“They try their very best and the commissioners to keep Plant City, you know small town charm, Strawberry Festival, the little things that make Plant City, downtown, but yet also help out the businesses,” he says.
County commissioners have also announced a proposed list of community investment tax projects they’re hoping to implement.
