ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Pinellas County Urban League is hosting a community rally Friday evening in hopes of getting voters engaged and recruiting poll workers.

The rally will serve as a kickoff for the league’s “Reclaim your Vote” campaign, which is a national movement that promotes voter registration and education.

What You Need To Know

  •  Rally to engage voters will be held from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday at Pinellas Technical College

  •  Food trucks, local vendors, and voting information available

  •  Rally coincides with the graduation of the Summer Training in Youth Leadership and Employment 2024 cohort

It’s scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pinellas Technical College at 901 34th St S. in St. Petersburg. The event is open to everyone and will include local food trucks, vendors, free legal and financial advice, as well as voting information to help residents make their voting plan.

The rally coincides with the graduation of the Summer Training in Youth Leadership and Employment 2024 cohort, which is a summer program for teens funded by the City of St. Petersburg.

Nikki Gaskin Capehart, who serves as president of the Pinellas County Urban League, says even though the teens who are celebrating their graduation from the program can’t vote yet, it’s a great opportunity to engage their families.

“We’re always trying to reach our families,” she said. “Not just one demographic, so our students are graduating, but we’re engaging their parents because we want them to make sure they have a vote plan.”

Capehart’s goal is to turn St. Pete residents into habitual voters who prioritize casting their ballots every election.

“All of our elections are important — that’s why I keep pushing the importance of a super voter so people are continuously engaged and people don’t have to get excited. I’m excited every time there’s an election because I’m exercising my right and that’s power to me,” she said.
