District 1 election

Candidates running for District 1: 

  • Nadia Combs
    • As a former Hillsborough public school teacher and a current mother of two children who attend Hillsborough schools, she understands the intricacies of District 1 and channels her energy into giving back to her community.
  • Layla Collins
    • Layla has been very active in her children’s education, volunteering at every opportunity, substitute teaching when called upon and advocating for adaptive sports, and supporting the veteran community.
  • Julie Magill
    • Her beliefs are that kids need to be protected from sexually explicit material, that parents (all parents of any persuasion) should be notified of conversations their kids have with school officials, that political ideals should not be a part of the curriculum, unless it is in a history class and being taught as history, that teachers should be paid a better salary and merit increases, that the school board budget needs to be gone through and be transparent to all, that all kids should be afforded the same opportunities and not singled out by race or religion or handicap. 

District 3 election

Candidates running for District 3: 

  • Jessica Vaughn
    • Jessica Vaughn was elected to the board, representing District 3, in 2020. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of 3.3 billion for the 7th largest school district in the nation, which is also the county’s largest employer.
  • Myosha Powell
    • I'm originally from New York and moved to Tampa in 2005. I'm an aunt to four nieces and three nephews and hope to have my own family someday.

District 5 election

Candidates running for District 5: 

  • Henry Washington
    • Henry “Shake” Washington was elected to the Hillsborough County School Board, representing District 5, in 2020 and has been elected as the Board’s Vice-Chair for two consecutive years.
  • Kenneth Gay
    • My top priorities are to address issues in our struggling schools by focusing on retaining and recruiting effective and experienced teachers and administrators.
  • Elvis Piggott
    • I wholeheartedly believe in the incredible potential of our students in District 5. Their talents, strength, and achievements inspire me, and I am committed to work tirelessly to provide them with the resources they need to succeed and thrive in District 5.
  • Tamara Shamburger
    • Tamara Shamburger was a member of the school board, but was replaced by Washington in 202.

District 7 election

Candidates running for District 7: 

  • Lynn Gray
    • Gray was a teacher and instructional leader for 26 years in Hillsborough County. Her educational highlights include being named Teacher of the Year two times in HCPS and once in Pasco County.  She was also Peer Counselor of the Year.
  • Karen Bendorf
    • As the wife of a community pastor, mother of six amazing sons and a public school teacher in Hillsborough County for the past 13 years, I am passionate about providing our precious children a high quality education and days spent in a safe and wholesome school environment. 
  • Johnny Bush
    • Johnny Bush is a native of Lake Worth, Florida, located in Palm Beach County. He has a bachelor’s degree in School Social Work from Concordia Lutheran University in Seward, NE, and a master’s degree in Deaf Education from the University of North Florida, Jacksonville.

    • My mission is to bring the "Power Back to the Parents"!
