Heather Gallagher says Pruett Road at Mango Road (CR 579) can be hard to cross due to visibility issues and speeding.

“I’ve seen people trying to get right across the street. Just straight across, and bam. Just T-boned,” Gallagher said.

Right now, there are just stop signs on Pruett Road at Mango.

When drivers are trying to cross Mango, Gallagher says it can be hard to see oncoming traffic.

“You have to pull all the way out to where you’re right on the street, so that you can see around the fence and the bushes,” Gallagher said.

During the interview, Gallagher pointed out another driver doing just that: inching out toward speeding traffic while waiting for their turn to go.

“It’s scary and frustrating,” Gallagher said. “Because you’re waiting and waiting for the right chance to go. It just seems like there’s never a chance to go.”

And while Pruett Road is a smaller road, Mango is a busy road that many drivers use to get to and from I-4.

Hillsborough County does have a project in the works to improve the intersection.

One design proposal is to convert it into a roundabout with turn lanes. County officials confirmed they’re considering other options as well. However, it may also be a few years until it’s done.

Gallagher would like to see changes to the intersection soon. She feels even a traffic light might fix the issues there.

“And if they trimmed the bushes there and put in a crosswalk, I think that would be very helpful, too,” Gallagher said.
