TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa city council members voted Thursday to approve their own pay raises.
In a 4-3 vote, the council approved raising council members pay from about $55,000 to a little more than $75,000. The council also plans to draft a resolution aimed at increasing pay for unionized city workers.

The move is set to take effect Oct. 1.
Charlie Miranda, Luis Viera, and Bill Carlson voted against the measure.
Council members Lynn Hurtak, Gwen Henderson, Alan Clendenin and Guido Manscalco voted for it.
The members in favor of the move said not only does this move their pay raise closer to other city councils around the region but also may encourage a wider group of people to run for public office.
Two years ago, the council voted against a pay raise.
