The Tampa Museum of Art is currently featuring a collaboration of art from five Bay Area institutions.

“Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration” showcases work from:

  • The Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg
  • The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota
  • The Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design
  • The Tampa Museum of Art
  • The University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa

On Sunday, two of the artists will be discussing their work which is part of the exhibit.

Aimee Jones is a visual artist working in St. Petersburg. She specializes in painting the human figure, which is then transformed into landscapes. She’ll be discussing her work.

Marina Shaltout will too. She teaches at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota.

For this exhibit, she created an installation that looks like a shower. She collected hair that had fallen out and arranged it into words and shapes stuck the shower wall. The shapes and words – including the phrase “LIVE LAUGH LOVE” – are meant to mock the way commercialism and culture try to solve anxieties.

“For me personally, I started losing a lot of hair after I had COVID, but I think also as a result of general stress and anxiety at the time,” Shaltout said. “The phrase ‘Live Laugh Love’ is a kind of satirical commentary on ways we can’t fix deeper issues with fancy soaps or affirmations.”

The talk will happen at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Tampa Museum of Art, located at 120 W. Gasparilla Plaza. The talks are free with your admission.
