LUTZ, Fla. — As traffic continues to grow in Lutz, a resident says she is worried some of the roads are not keeping up with congestion, especially with more development on the way.
In recent years, Lutz resident Jeanne Copher said roads like Willow Bend Parkway have gotten much busier, particularly near U.S. 41.
“You’ll move a couple cars, and then you’ll sit some more,” she said.
She’s concerned that the traffic on Willow Bend Parkway, a two-lane road, can block the entrance to the neighborhood on Foxwood Drive, especially during rush hour.
“Other drivers don’t leave that open space," Copher said. "They’re not supposed to block that road, but they do."
Her concern is that with new developments being built nearby, this issue will only get worse. She says traffic already backs up all the way to Collier Parkway.
A fix there may be tricky, though, because the intersection is less than a quarter-mile from U.S. 41, where there already is a traffic light.
“It’s so close to that traffic light, I don’t know if anything can be done, like a three-way stop,” Copher said.
Regardless, Copher said she hopes some kind of traffic control device can be installed.
In the meantime, she hopes drivers will be more courteous and let others in.
"If they’d stop and let someone out that they see sitting there to pull out on the road, it would help,” Copher said.
Pasco County officials said the traffic operations division has not performed any studies at the intersection. However, they said they would take Copher's concern as a request and enter it into their system to perform some traffic studies within the next three weeks.
Pasco County considers traffic fixes for residents using their traffic request form.
