BRADENTON, Fla. — Whether you are looking for the very first Spiderman or the latest Flash Gordon, there is a Tampa Bay area comic book shop ready for you.
Local Comic Shop Day approaches. Bat City Comic Professionals owner Shannon Live is prepping for two celebrations at once.
The Bradenton shop is also celebrating its two-year anniversary on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with vendors, free comics, food and entertainment.
“So we carry about half a million comics in the store,” Live said as she thumbed through her back stock collection.
Live says fans of classic back stock collections, nicknamed “Diggers,” should set aside three or four hours.
“You will be here for a while,” Live says. “But it’s OK because we’ve got bar stools and chairs to make it super comfy and easy to look.”
Live also has a children’s section with one goal: making reading super comfy and easy.
“And of course, our biggest seller in the kid’s section is Dog Man,” said Live. “This is universally accepted as probably one of the top-selling comic book of all time and has definitely changed so many kids lives to become readers.”
For the adults, every week for the last six years, Live goes live on Sunday evenings talking about the latest Indie Comic Releases.
One of the benefits of hanging around a lot of books — you might find one you like, and read it.
The store also hosts comic book creation classes for children.
More than 2,000 local children have taken their classes in the last two years.
