HUDSON, Fla. — It was bright and early in Hudson Monday morning, but people were already up and working hard to help others recover from Hurricane Milton.

What You Need To Know

  •  Pasco County has opened four resource distribution centers throughout the county

  •  People at these facilities are giving away food, water and tarps

  •  In Hudson at the Pasco County Library, they also have a mobile laundromat and bathrooms available for people to use

  • Additionally, the county has representatives at FEMA there to assist people

Some of the people outside the Pasco County Library in Hudson were from Pasco County’s construction division within the Parks and Recreation Department but, following the latest storms, they’ve been distributing meals and water.

“They have like 280 calories in them, they're low in sodium,” said county construction supervisor Michael Smith. “But they do add salt to it too, if you want to utilize the salt.”

A couple of weeks ago, Smith was in the same spot for residents needing assistance after Helene thinking that would be it.

“We were called back off, and now we're back here with Milton,” he said.

Each day, he and his crew were at the site handing out food and boxed water, along with tarps and information that FEMA is inside the library to assist as well.

“A lot of people showing up now because FEMA’s here,” Smith said. “And they’re coming there. Once they get done with FEMA, we tell them to get in their car and we’ll give them the supplies they need.”

And while just a handful were present Monday, Smith said hundreds have been by since the storm made landfall.

“The last 17 days have been really busy nonstop,” he said.

Smith said that even though he and his crew were tired, they wouldn’t be anywhere else.

“It’s all what the public needs right now,” he said. “I mean, a lot of people out there flooded. Especially the people over on the Anclote River now and on the east side of the Withlacoochee River.”

They not only have food and water, but a mobile laundromat and bathrooms.

A tanker truck arrived Monday morning to refuel the site's generator, so Smith said they’ll be able to be a haven for residents looking to clean up in the aftermath of the storms.

Smith said workers will be at the site every day until the county decides the needs of the community have been met.

Along with the site in Hudson at 8012 Library Road, the county has three other locations operating.

Those locations are:

  • Dade City Fairgrounds at 36722 County Road 52 in Dade City
  • St. Vincent DePaul at 4843 Mile Stretch Drive in Holiday
  • 5435 Gall Blvd., in Zephyrhills

All four distribution centers operate daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
