TAMPA, Fla. — The gas supply crunch is coming to an end across Tampa Bay, as the Florida Petroleum Marketer’s Association says most stations should be back to normal operations today.

What You Need To Know

  •  Gas distribution issues should end later today across much of Tampa Bay Region

  •  Tampa's Port re-opened on Saturday, including the pipeline that delivers fuel to Orlando

  •  Local Law Enforcement has been escorting gas tankers to gas stations

  • FPMA says the state EOC trains for scenarios like this, and was well prepared to scale-up distribution as soon  as Tampa's Port re-opened

  • Where to find gas after Hurricane Milton

Lines at gas stations have been disappearing since the weekend, as a rush of gas has been coming from Port Tampa, which was closed during Hurricane Milton.

  • A run on gas stations prior to the storm, and a 2 day shutdown of distribution led to gas stations being empty.

Executive Director of FPMA Ned Bowman says Tampa’s port shutdown had a significant impact on gas distribution across the state.

“% of the fuel for the state of Florida comes through Tampa, and they also have the pipeline which takes it up toward Orlando.  And you can’t say enough about the terminal operators working 24/7 to get those tanks up online, and the people inside the port, Paul Anderson and his team down there, super job, and it is a big hit.  But the state EOC does practice scenarios like this.”

The Governor’s Office has stressed there was never a gas shortage in Florida, rather a distribution issue as a result of Hurricane Milton.

Most gas stations are now back to normal operations, but for those that aren’t, gas supplies should be received today.
