  • The initiative was spearheaded by District 2 commissioner Victoria Bruce and was part of a partnership with the Seminole Education, Restoration & Volunteer Program (SERV)

  • Bruce noted that another road cleanup is planned for February

The cleanup, which began at 11:30 a.m., was part of a partnership with the Seminole Education, Restoration & Volunteer Program (SERV).

The program, established in 2010, organizes environmental efforts such as litter removal, shoreline restoration with native plants, and storm drain marking.

“Anybody from the county or even outside can volunteer for environmental restoration work,” said Elizabeth Stephens, SERV coordinator. “It not only protects roadways and keeps the community clean, but also protects wildlife and waterways.”

Bruce emphasized the importance of the community taking ownership of their environment.

“I think it’s unnecessary and rude to litter, but it’s our responsibility to keep our neighborhood clean,” Bruce said. “I’m excited to promote this program and make a visible difference right here on our main road.”

Bruce noted that another road cleanup is planned for February.
