CLEARWATER, Fla. — More than 7,000 voters took advantage of early voting Monday in Pinellas County.
The state allowed voters in Pinellas County to have an extra day to cast their ballots because of the recent hurricanes.
On Monday, lines wrapped the Supervisor of Elections Office at the courthouse in Clearwater.
“It’s incredible,” said Pinellas Supervisor of Elections Julie Marcus. “How resilient are Pinellas county voters? They’ve been through so much over the last two weeks and to see this sort of turnout is really just impactful.”
Also on Tuesday, Pinellas County is allowing voters to cast a ballot at any one of the Supervisor of Elections offices, making it easier for those who have been displaced because of the storm.
Pinellas lost 25 precincts because of the hurricane, so some polling locations have changed.
“All of those polling places that we lost, we were able to combine with another or we found new ones,” Marcus said. “So it’s really important you go to our website, look yourself up, find out where your polling place is.”
The Elections supervisor said the best thing to do is to be election ready.
She said Pinellas voters should use the Supervisor of Elections office as a precinct of last resort.
If there are any problems at the polls, election monitor Maryellen Gordon said there will be people to help.
Gordon is with the League of Women Voters in St. Pete. She talked to voters outside two of the three sites Monday to ensure the process went smoothly.
“We’re just making super people know that we’re here in case they have any issues,” Gordon said.
Election monitors will be back out on Tuesday.
