For people looking to save on repairs, a regional water conservation program can help. Tampa Bay Water’s Water Wise Program will give you $40 to $100 back when you replace your old toilet with a newer, water efficient one.

“A lot of folks have a 1.6-gallon-per-flush toilet. But if they move to a water sense toilet, that uses 20% less water,” said program manager Amelia Brown. “So then they get to save with every flush on their water and their sewer bills.”

It’s a savings any homeowner can appreciate but, especially those rebuilding after the hurricanes.

“Every chance we can to get to save money, we need to do that,” said Lauren Eichler, whose Snell Shores home flooded during Hurricane Helene. “Because the insurance company, we’re not sure how much they’re going to give us.”

Homeowners in Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough counties can find toilets marked for the rebates at their local Home Depot and Lowe's stores. They can also be purchased elsewhere, as long as they are listed on the EPA's WaterSense eligibility list.
