BRADENTON, Fla. — A Bradenton woman battling cancer is paying it forward by bringing awareness and helping fellow cancer patients by using a crowdfunding site that allocates part of her proceeds to others suffering with the disease.

Lisa Wicker uses an AngeLink site to do this.

Wicker got the news in October.

That cancer diagnosis has her now fighting and raising money for the cause for a cure.

Before the cancer, adventure filled Wicker’s life. She is the mother of two future doctors who are currently in med school.

She also has a cute doggie named Teddy, and moved to Florida to start a new chapter.

But the recent medical news has changed her life — a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis.

She said she was caught by surprise.

“Floored and completely shocked because breast cancer doesn’t run in my family,” Wicker said.

The days now come with much needed rest and recovery.

“So, sleep is your best friend and I get maybe 10 minutes of energy after I wake up,” she said. “And then you’re really exhausted again, and it’s the same thing that happens over and over.”

That is Wicker’s agenda following chemotherapy at the Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute.

This puts her feeling a little bit better by Christmas Day with her kids by her side helping her during this unexpected cancer journey.

“Ten months ago, I had had a mammogram, and everything was fine,” she said. “So, 10 months later I found a lump and here you go, it can happen really quick.”

While recovery can be isolating at times, she is not doing it alone.

Wicker has a good friend who lives on the other side of Florida and drives cross-state to help her.

Help is what Lisa is also doing now.

“It’s a serious financial burden which is what led me to AngeLink,” she said. “And what i love about them not only can you fundraise for yourself, and they give a percentage to other women who are facing breast cancer.”

Wicker said a donation to her AngeLink also donates ten percent of what she gets to the cause.

“There’s always someone who’s far off worse than you are,” she said. “And if you can help others, just be able to pay for their food bills or their co-payments for their doctor visits.”
