PLANT CITY, Fla. — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a fire that broke out Thursday night at a recycling company in Plant City.

The fire broke out at NuCycle Energy at 2067 S. County Line Rd. just after 9 p.m., and firefighters are still working to clear out smoldering debris from the warehouse hours later.

Rice Road remains shut down at South County Line Road.

Plant City Fire Rescue (PCFR) rushed to the scene to find a cardboard recycling area of the warehouse burning, with fire spreading quickly through piles of cardboard.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was called in to assist PCFR with the rapidly escalating fire, and eventually Lakeland Fire was also called out, officials stated.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to knock the fire down, but now the hard work is underway, as firefighters are using heavy equipment to remove smoldering debris piles from the warehouse and put out hot spots, which could take several more hours.

It is not known if there were any employees working inside the warehouse when the fire broke out, and a cause has not been determined.
