BRADENTON, Fla. — Manatee County authorities are investigating a shooting and apparent home invasion that occurred in the River Club community Thursday night.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, a home owner in the River Club community shot at two intruders entering the rear of his home on Hickory Hammock Circle.

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. when the homeowner saw two men on video surveillance outside his home.
Deputies said one of the intruders was shot and the other man ran off.
The wounded man was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later died. He was identified as 27-year-old Jorge Nestevan Flores-Toledo, from Mexico. He was arrested back in 2023 and had served jail time for burglary, then was released in November. He had an active warrant for parole violation and was considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.
Deputies tracked down the other suspect, later identified as Michel Soto-Mella, using K9 units and arrested him a few blocks away.
The scene was secured shortly thereafter, and authorities confirmed that everyone involved was accounted for, posing no threat to the community.
Sheriff Rick Wells said the investigation is ongoing.
"What we do know, as we work with Border Patrol, what we believe is that the suspect that survived is, Chilean descent, came to California from Chile sometime, a few months ago," Wells said. "I guess if you are from Chile, Border Patrol gives you a 90 day visa. That visa was supposed to expire in September. Suspect never returned back to Chile. somehow made it to Tampa about six days ago."
Wells added detectives are still trying to determine why the intruders targeted the house in the River Club community.
"We still don't have, any information to give you on why they chose this house," the sheriff said. "Why they chose to break into an occupied dwelling that that's still very active."
