TEXAS — A cold weather watch has been issued by ERCOT for Texas from Jan. 20-23.

Although ERCOT anticipates typical grid conditions, higher electricity demand and potentially lower reserves are expected.

Parts of the state can expect winter precipitation, with less than an inch of snow likely across Central Texas, and a possible wintry mix as far south as the coast.

ERCOT says it is closely watching the situation and will utilize all available resources for grid management.

Besides the cold weather, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) announced the deployment of state wildfire response resources to the Panhandle, Permian Basin and West Texas regions in anticipation of heightened wildfire danger on Friday.

Dry grasses, critical fire weather and strong winds (over 55 mph) will increase wildfire risks in these areas.

“With dry conditions and increased fire weather risks, it is critical for Texans to remain vigilant, avoid activities that could spark fires, and follow guidance from local emergency officials. Together, we can reduce risks and ensure safety of ourselves and our communities,” said Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd. “The first responders working day and night are never far from my mind and I want to thank them for their dedication and commitment of keeping us all safe.”
