PLANT CITY, Fla. — Your child is missing. Those are the words a Plant City family is still trying to process five years after their loved one disappeared.
Veronica Reyes-Diaz, a mother of three, went missing on Jan. 18, 2020.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the case and looking for new leads.
Five years later, Veronica’s family says they’re not giving up hope and praying for her safe return.
Time is passing by but for Claudia Morales, there isn’t a day that doesn’t remind her of her niece.
“I think in my mind, I keep thinking and saying that she’s out there somewhere,” she says.
Fidencio Minjares recalls the last moments he spent with his daughter. “She’s about 4 foot tall. She’s an itty-bitty little thing, but she has spunk,” he says.
According to the sheriff’s office, Veronica was out with friends on a Friday night, came home, tucked her children into bed, walked outside and hasn’t been seen since.
The sheriff’s office says the case is still under investigation and no updates were provided.
For Fidencio, the search since his daughter’s disappearance hasn’t stopped. “I still go out there and I drive around the trailer park where she stayed at and still trying to put the puzzle together," he said.
The family has also created this Facebook page to continue to share Veronica’s story.
A banner has also been placed at the mobile home park where she lived in dover.
Veronica has three children, Claudia says, who have had to grow up without knowing what happened to their mother.
She is hoping more can be done to help bring Veronica home.
“Something must have happened. She wouldn’t have left her babies, there was no way she would have done that. So it’s hard to believe that it is going to be five years," she said.
The family is holding onto hope that they will see Veronica smiling once again.
Saturday night, the family will gather at the Valrico Hills Mobile Home Park in Dover to mark the day of her disappearance.
