DALLAS — Most people growing up dream of finding true love and living happily ever after just like in fairy tales. But for Cowboys and Texans fans, they would rather have a Super Bowl ring than a wedding ring.
That’s right, a new study from Wetten.com found that many football fans would rather see their favorite team win the Super Bowl than find their soulmate.
The website surveyed about 2,000 single NFL fans from across the U.S., and it found that 48% of them would choose a Super Bowl win over finding true love. The study breaks that down even further with 51% of female NFL fans and 46% of male NFL fans saying they would rather get a Super Bowl victory.
Looking specifically at Texas’ two NFL teams, both fan bases were above the national average. About 54% of single Houston Texans fans said they would rather see the team win its first ever Super Bowl over finding their person. Dallas Cowboys fans were a little lower, but not by much, coming in at 52%.
Football fans in general in the Lone Star State were split 50-50 between wanting love or a championship.
But Texas fans were nowhere near the top of the list. That honor goes to the downtrodden Detroit Lions fans.
Lions fans have experienced a lot of heartbreak over the years, and 78% of them say they want to see their team hoist the Lombardi Trophy for the first time over any romance. The next closest fan base itching for a championship ring were LA Chargers fans at 60%.
It’s probably no surprise that New England Patriots fans were at the bottom of the list, with only 22% of them choosing the win over love. The study speculates that it may be less to do with them being hopeless romantics and more to do with the Patriots being tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl victories in history.
Single or taken, at least one fan base will be happy this coming Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
