TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — Visitors will be heading to Treasure Island Beach this weekend for “Back to the Beach: Sand & Kites & Coastal Delights.”
Treasure Island is partnering with Visit St. Pete-Clearwater for the family-friendly event.
The message is simple — the beach is back open. It’s also a chance for local businesses to showcase their products and connect with visitors.
There are those areas along the beach that are still recovering from this past hurricane season.
Some hotels including Thunderbird Beach Resort are still closed for the time being as they build back. Meanwhile, Bilmar Beach Resort is open as repairs continue.
Event organizers say this weekend is not just a celebration, but a message to let visitors know that Treasure Island Beach is open.
“They’ll come back, come to the event and they’ll spill out into our local businesses,” said Jason Beisel, public information officer for the city of Treasure Island. “Some of these restaurants are just now opening after being closed for a few months, so it helps support them, helps support their employees, keeps them open so they can survive this part, and then some of our hotels as well.”Those who come out to the event can expect to see some live music and a kite show. There will also be a sand sculpture, combining two of the area’s most popular events into one.
The event gets underway on Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m.
