WAUSAU, Wis. — With hotels in the Green Bay area already booked for the NFL Draft, leaders and businesses in the City of Wausau are hoping to entice people still looking for accommodations.
Visit Wausau is partnering with 14 area hotels to offer a $55 shuttle to get to and from Lambeau Field every day of the NFL Draft. It’s available to anyone who books a room. The distance between Wausau and Green Bay is about 95 miles.
“We knew that Green Bay was not going to have adequate housing, and we felt by providing a shuttle, that it would be an opportunity — particularly for people coming from the western part of the state, or further from the fields — they would be able to affordably and conveniently experience the NFL Draft,” said Randy Bangs, the owner of The Stewart Inn, a small boutique hotel in Wausau.
Visit Wausau Executive Director Tim White said he sees the shuttle service as another way to "draft" repeat visitors to the area, by showcasing hidden gems.
“People that are running the hotels here are the owners of the hotels, so you really get that local hospitality,” said White. “They will make recommendations for people to experience other things in the area.”
Bangs said he prides himself on creating a home away from home for guests, regardless of what NFL team they root for.
