GREEN LAKE COUNTY, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed on Tuesday that 13 fire crews had fully contained a 750-acre wildfire. The wildfire spread through the White River Marsh State Wildlife Area in Green Lake County Monday.

"The fire burned in cattails and long marsh grass," Amy Penn, a forestry specialist with the DNR, saod. "We got really hot fire behavior in those light fueld — they dry really quickly."

Penn said she's hopeful that forecasted rain and snow later this week could go a long way to reducing Wisconsin's ongoing and elevated wildfire risk. In the meantime, she's asking everyone to do their part to help reduce the risk of fires sparking and spreading.

"We're asking folks to be aware of what the burning rules are where you live," Penn said. "In some areas where the DNR provides wildfire protection, you're required to have a burning permit and those are free; they're easy to get online."
