LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County is asking residents to fill out a countywide vulnerability assessment survey to identify critical areas that are prone to flooding.

The assessment is part of a Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Resilient Florida Program grant the county received last year. The project kicked off in December 2024 and should conclude in March 2026, the county said.
The 2025-26 vulnerability assessment has many components, including:
Acquiring and analyzing data
Conducting exposure and sensitivity analyses of critical assets and infrastructure to flooding
Identifying focus areas (geographic areas or assets)
Identifying adaptation strategies and projects
Prioritizing adaptation and mitigation projects
Aligning with the Local Mitigation Strategy
Public outreach
“It’s important that we receive feedback from the public on our vulnerability assessment,” Emergency Management Director Megan Milanese stated on a county release. “We’re working hard to reduce flooding impacts. While developing the vulnerability assessment, this meeting and future public meetings will help us to better understand community members’ concerns and suggestions.”
According to the county, “this study supplements the Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group’s ongoing activities by identifying critical local and regional assets that are exposed and sensitive to flooding.”

The county is encouraging all residents and business owners within Lake County to fill out the online survey or attend the public meeting on Tuesday, March 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
