OHIO — The National Weather Service will conduct surveys in a few Ohio counties after severe storms with damaging wind gusts, heavy rain and hail hit the state Sunday night.
The first survey will be conducted in northern Butler County through Warren County and into northwest Clinton County. NWS said there was reported damage in Monroe, Waynesville and Harveysburg.
The second survey will focus on southern Warren County into Clinton County. There was damaged reported in Mason, Morrow and New Vienna, NWS said.
More information on these surveys is expected to be released Monday afternoon.
Sunday night, storm spotters reported a tornado touchdown in Warren County, near the community of Waynesville and Caesar Creek State Park, in southwest Ohio. There are preliminary reports of damage to at least one home and power lines, according to information provided by the National Weather Service.
More than 4,000 customers were without power as of 2:30 p.m.. Monday, according to poweroutage.us. During the storms Sunday night, more than 40,000 outages were reported.
New Miami Local School District in Butler County announced it's closed Monday due to the outages, and all athletic games and practices have been canceled as well.
Additionally, the St. Clair Twp. Fire Department reported Trenton Road between Williams Street and Fenton Street is closed until further notice due to downed power lines. Fenton Street at Center Street in Williamsdale is closed because of a large tree that fell.
The St. Clair Twp. Fire Department urges people to avoid driving through Linda Trailer Park today, as crews will be out doing damage assessments throughout the morning.
