FRISCO, Texas — A murder charge was filed against a student who stabbed another student to death at a UIL track meet in Frisco on Wednesday morning.

The stabbing occurred around 10 a.m. at the UIL District 11-5A championship track meet held at Frisco ISD’s Kuykendall Stadium.

The 17-year-old victim died despite lifesaving efforts from police and fire personnel.

The suspect has been identified as a 17-year-old student. The student is currently in custody and has been charged with murder and a first degree felony.

“The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain,” the police department said. “The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Frisco Independent School District said the stabbing happened at a meet where student athletes from eight of the district's 12 schools were competing.

The student who was killed was Austin Metcalf, an 11th grader at Memorial High School, according to an email the principal sent to parents Wednesday.
