WISCONSIN — After initially dealing with funding delays in the early days of the current Trump administration, Head Start programs in Wisconsin are now navigating job cuts on the federal level and how those cuts will impact kids across the Badger State.

"On a daily, weekly and monthly basis, there are a number of interactions with fiscal officers and program specialists that are really necessary to keep kids safe, healthy and happy," said Jennie Mauer, executive director of the Wisconsin Head Start Association.

in 2024, Head Start helped more than 16,000 kids across Wisconsin at nearly 300 separate locations with everything from healthy meals to mental health services.

And that's not all

"In Wisconsin, we have two really big construction projects that are happening," Mauer said. "We have two programs that are waiting to find out, 'Will I be able to get the payment from the federal government for those construction projects?'"
