CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns are showing their support for military families this weekend.

The team hosted a family field day, working with Cross Country Mortgage and the Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism, also known as NEOPAT.

Children participated in football drills and activities while former Browns player John Hughes offered words of encouragement to the aspiring players.

Ohio-based nonprofit NEOPAT works to provide veterans and military families with resources and support programs.

"A lot of people don't realize military families are often operating on tight budgets," said Rick DeChant, senior advisor emeritus at NEOPAT. "And to have an opportunity not only to get the family out, but to come to an NFL training facility, is just exceptional. And we're so grateful that the Browns have asked NEOPAT to assist in getting families here."

Ohio's Department of Education and Workforce said the state is home to more than 700,000 veterans, 32,000 military personnel and 15,000 military-connected youth.
