With online and in-person registration for the After-School Plus program opening 4 p.m. Monday, April 14, the Hawaii State Department of Education and A+ program providers statewide encourage families to prepare for the upcoming 2025 to 2026 school year.

What You Need To Know

  • To register for the program, families must submit proof of eligibility for both parents or legal guardians regardless of marital status

  • Parents can register online at the HIDOE A+ website or via the A+ provider’s website, as well as in-person at your child’s A+ school site

  • The A+ program monthly fee is $200 for the 2025 to 2026 school year and is due on the first program day of each month

  • Financial assistance is available to income-eligible families through the state Department of Human Services A+ subsidy program

A+ programs provide safe and supervised after-school care for public elementary school students in grades K-6 whose parents or guardians are working, attending school or participating in job training programs during after-school hours.

To register for the program, families must submit proof of eligibility for both parents or legal guardians regardless of marital status. Families will need to have the following documents prior to registration:

• Employed parents - Current pay stubs dated within the past 30 days or a letter from an employer to verify work hours.

• Self-employed/independent contractors - General Excise Tax license and either a tax return with Schedule C or recent business checking account statement.

• Parents attending school - A class schedule on official school letterhead with the student’s name, school and course schedule.

• Parents in job training programs - A DHS_728 First-to-Work approval letter.

• If applicable, custody documents and proof of legal guardianship or foster parent documents (must be resubmitted each school year).

Parents can register online at the HIDOE A+ website or via the A+ provider’s website — YMCA of Honolulu, Kamaʻāina Kids, Dream Co.

Parents or guardians can also register in-person at your child’s A+ school site. Download registration forms and Parent Handbooks from the HIDOE A+ website or from the respective A+ provider’s website. Printed copies are also available at school sites.

Avoid duplicate registrations by having just one household member submit the online application. Although online capacity has been expanded to handle high traffic, both online and in-person registrations will be date- and time-stamped and processed in the order they were received. HIDOE says incomplete applications may experience delays and space may fill before enrollment is confirmed.

The A+ program monthly fee is $200 for the 2025 to 2026 school year and is due on the first program day of each month.

Financial assistance is available to income-eligible families through the state Department of Human Services A+ subsidy program. DHS subsidy applicants must submit a new application and provide proof of income for all household members each school year. Get help with the Income Eligibility Calculator.

More information and assistance are available at the HIDOE A+ website and A+ providers’ websites.
