Disney Springs has no shortage of things to look at – 102 shops, 66 places to eat and drink, and 22 opportunities for “play.” And one of those is an art walk that’s off the beaten path.
1. Art Walk: A Canvas of Expression is an outdoor gallery showcasing the work of local and international artists, and the vibrant culture that shaped them.
2. Everett Spruill is one of the art district's nearly 10 artists.
3. Growing up in Birmingham, Ala., during the civil rights movement, he learned early on how to project his feelings and memories. “My mom made all of our clothes growing up,” he told us. “So whenever she made a new outfit for us, it was a photo opp … so, at 5 years old, I was running around with a 35mm (camera).”
4. In Everett's work, you'll notice themes from his time spent at jazz clubs. He uses various materials, too. “Found objects, book pages, even electronic parts,” he said. “The texture you see here is actually paper that has been painted over … it's basically just crumpled up paper that I glue down and paint around.”
5. The Art Walk is located near the Town Center Bus Loops at Disney Springs.
