TEXAS — Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, will visit Del Rio, Texas on Feb. 1 and 2.

While in Del Rio, she’ll assess CBP operations, meet its workforce and tour the border.

Noem was confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security on Jan. 25 on a 59-34 vote.

Following confirmation, Noem affirmed her commitment “to secure our southern border and fix our broken immigration system.”

The Secretary of Homeland Security oversees U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Noem’s upcoming trip to the southern border will be her inaugural visit since assuming her new role.

Prior to her appointment as Secretary of Homeland Security, Noem, a Trump ally, served as governor of South Dakota. Her time as governor included participation in a Republican governor's initiative to use National Guard troops in Texas for Operation Lone Star’s aim of deterring migration.
