The New York State Police say two additional suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Sam Nordquist in Ontario County.
On Thursday, police say Kimberly Sochia, 29, of Canandaigua, and Thomas Eaves, 21, of Geneva, were taken into custody. They are both charged with second-degree murder — depraved indifference, investigators say.
Sochia and Eaves were processed and taken to the Ontario County Jail pending arraignment, according to police.
Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts says Eaves has a history, and is "not unfamiliar" to law enforcement. Ritts also confirmed that Eaves is the son of another suspect, Precious Arzuaga.
The following individuals have already been indicted by a grand jury on a second-degree murder charge in the case:
- Precious Arzuaga, 38, of Geneva
- Jennifer Quijano, 30, of Geneva
- Kyle Sage, 33, of Hopewell
- Patrick Goodwin, 30, of Rochester
- Emily Motyka, 19, of Rochester
“When you start bringing more people in, the more disturbing it gets," said Ritts. "Nothing about it is not going to make it the worst thing I've ever seen. It's just when you start bringing more people in, you shake your head and you think about what this really means and how did it happen, how did it happen without discovery and what were people thinking. It's the anger, right? Sam didn't deserve this in a million years. Sam didn't deserve this. And what he went through is appalling. And, we want for his family, for his friends, for his community, to understand where we are actively moving forward on the journey to justice for Sam. We want to make sure everybody is held accountable, appropriately accountable.”
Investigators say last week they executed a search warrant of Room 22 at Patty's Lodge in the town of Hopewell where they learned the details of Nordquist's death. The 24-year-old transgender man from Minnesota was found dead in Yates County. Five suspects in this case were moved to a grand jury earlier this week. Eaves and Sochia are expected in Hopewell Town Court on Wednesday, however, Ritts anticipates these two move to a grand jury, as well.
