The Syracuse Police Department will soon be using drones to respond to low priority 911 calls.
The department has trained officers who will pilot drones to calls across the city.
They believe using drones is going to make their department more efficient in responding to 911 calls and deciding if sending officers is needed.
The public will be able to monitor drone flights online with the software the department is using with the drones.
A question brought up at a public safety committee meeting by common councilors was what the recording policy of the drones will be.
“When you launch the drone, part of the launch procedure will be to hit record if we have to manually do it,” Sgt. Jason Wells said.
Also discussed was the department's ATV detail and how the five-year program has been successful in getting illegal dirt bikes and four wheelers off the road.
