New York State Police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting in Malta Thursday that left a suspect dead and two troopers with minor injuries, according to State Police.

Authorities said the incident happened at Ellsworth Commons Apartments on Route 9 just before 9 a.m. in what began as a response to a domestic dispute involving an individual on the site.

Responding troopers said they saw Brandon Moore, 37, walk out of the apartment armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

They say Moore refused commands to drop the weapon and instead aimed it at troopers.

That's when State Police fired their service weapons and killed him. Troopers say he was holding a BB gun and not a handgun.

Two troopers were injured and are expected to fully recover.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The incident comes one day after State Police in a separate incident shot and killed a man who fired several rounds into the occupied State Police barracks in Malta and refused officer commands to drop the firearm, according to police.

New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association (PBA) President Charles Murphy released a statement Thursday, saying:

“Our troopers demonstrate incredible bravery and commitment to public service every single day. These events, which happened not even 24 hours apart, underscore troopers’ unwavering resolve and professionalism in the face of the uncertainty and danger that comes with the job. Our union will support the members involved in these two incidents in every way we can. For those who were physically injured, we hope for full and speedy recoveries. In addition to bodily harm, critical incidents like these can leave emotional wounds that require time to heal. We will work with State Police leadership and elected officials to ensure troopers have access to sufficient support and services following critical incidents.”
