University of South Florida career leading rebounder Alisia Jenkins’ dreams came to life when the senior signed with the New York Liberty as free agent Saturday night. Jenkins will travel to New York City for the start of preseason camp April 29.
Jenkins ended her four years as USF’s career leading rebounder with 1,284 rebounds and ended her season with 319 rebounds (11.4 rebounds per game). Jenkins also holds the top single-season mark of 397 rebounds, which she grabbed as a junior. The Statesboro, Ga. native averaged double figures in her final two seasons and grabbed the program’s first and second 20-point, 20-rebound games. The forward was essential in the paint for the Bulls and tallied 10-plus rebounds in 18 games this season.
Jenkins is the sixth Bull to join a WNBA team, following fellow senior Courtney Williams to the league. The pair are the first duo to join the league in the same season. Williams was selected eighth overall by the Phoenix Mercury.
Other former Bulls selected in the WNBA Draft include Inga Orekhova, who was chosen 18th overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2014; Andrea Smith, who was chosen 35th by the Connecticut Sun in 2013 and Jessica Dickson, who was chosen 21st in the 2007 WNBA draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. Wanda Guyton was picked fifth in the Elite Draft in 1997, the league’s inaugural season.
The New York Liberty will open preseason camp April 29 and will open the 20th Anniversary season of the WNBA on May 14 against the Washington Mystics.
