SPRING HILL, FLA--
It’s a wall of so close.
A wall filled with Bishop McLaughlin teams that nearly pulled off the big win.
“Our baseball team’s come close, our sand beach, we came close, so we call it the wall of almost,” head coach Douglas Chinchar said.

The Canes volleyball team plans on changing that. A wall of almost to a wall of did it. No sports team at Bishop McLaughlin has ever won a state championship. A win on Saturday in the Class 3A volleyball title game would make school history.
“Everybody kind of jumped on board,” Chinchar said. “The history’s creating itself, which is nice. So, it’s one more to go.”
“ It’s crazy,” junior setter Terah Nejman said. “t’s a lot of hard work, a lot of effort, time in practice, time out of practice. It’s just everything makes perfect.”
One of the keys to the Canes success this season, their depth. Three players in triple-digit kills, including sisters Audrey and Gabriella Koenig, give them the luxury of spreading the ball around.
“There’s no bad option, like, there’s really not,” senior outside hitter Jessica Angelo said. “You can go anywhere, in our front row, set back row and like, we’ll put the ball down. We just have so much talent.”
“We’ve got some kids that been there, done that in the open divisions for club. This is just another big open match,” Chinchar said. “And we’ve got some kids that have a gift of getting up high, jump high, hit hard . So, when you have a couple kids that can crunch it, it makes it a little bit easier.”
It hasn’t always been easy this season, but they’ve kept a perfect record intact.
“It’s been nice to have the bullseye,” Chinchar said. “We never had the bullseye. I’d rather have the bullseye.”
“Last game we were like, 29-1 does not sound good,” sophomore outside hitter Audrey Koenig said. “We have to keep going, we can’t ruin this. It’s like the perfect season.”
The Canes are seeking more than a state title, they’re seeking perfection. A win on Saturday would give them both.
