CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After 17 seasons in the NFL, Julius Peppers has announced he is retiring.
A video was posted on the Carolina Panthers announced the news on Twitter Friday. Panthers also wrote an op-ed in The Players Tribune, discussing the news.
Peppers was born in Nash County and attended college at UNC Chapel Hill where he was a student athlete for both football and basketball.
He played in nine Pro Bowls and is fourth on the NFL's all-time sack list.
Peppers was with the Panthers from 2002-2009 and then again from 2017-2018, with stints with the Chicago Bears (2010-2013) and the Green Bay Packers (2014-2016).
