Lakeland, Fla. -- It was a moment that Arlynn Spence will never forget.

“I was told the Golf Channel was going to be coming to the First Tee of Lakeland,” said Spence. I was really excited I didn’t know they were going to be interviewing me. And when she had me hit a couple of shots and she told me the news it was hands down one of the best moments of my life, I was so excited and just completely unexpected too.”

Arlynn is one of just 78 junior golfers from around the country selected to compete in this week’s Pure Insurance Championship. A PGA Tour Champions tournament held at Pebble Beach Golf Links where junior golfers pair up with a PGA Tour Champions player and two amateurs.

“It’s unreal. I found out about a month ago and it still hasn’t set in. Just the opportunity just to play on such a legendary course, it’s amazing.”

“It’s a great opportunity,” said Gerald Richardson, Director of Golf Operations for the First Tee of Lakeland. “For her, it’s something she deserves. She’s worked for it she carries herself well on and off the golf course.”

Arlynn first picked up a club when she was eight years old, and since then, has been developing her game at the YMCA Par 3, home of the First Tee of Lakeland.

“It’s an amazing place,” said Spence. “It’s such a blessing that I have this course here. It helps me work on our short game, it’s a safe environment and the people here are so welcoming.

Playing at Pebble Beach will be difficult, but the reigning Polk County Golfer of the Year has aced tough tests before.

And she’s ready to crush her next one.

“I’m just really excited. It is going to be a challenge but I’m just excited to see what happens.
