TAMPA, Fla. - The McClendon sisters look a lot alike on the volleyball court.
These Academy of the Holy Names teammates have similar games. Good vertical. Strong arms. Smart players.
But there is one thing that sets them apart.
"Um, definitely the favorite," Camille McClendon said.
So much for sisterly love. Want to get the McClendon sisters to trash talk each other, ask which one is their parents’ favorite. But volleyball, that they can agree on. And they’re both really good at it.
"She has a very high vertical," said senior Camryn McClendon of her younger sister. "She jumps very high, just like me. Honestly, she’s good at everything."
"She hits very well, jumps very high," said sophomore Camille. "Just a very, all around good player. So, I would definitely be scared."
Academy of the Holy Names put a lot of fear in their opponents last season. The Jaguars advanced to the state semifinals and the McClendons were a big reason why. If the Jags go farther this season, these two will will play a big role.
"We’ll be so much stronger and the communication level will be better," Camryn said. "Hopefully we can  make it to states, state finals this year."
This team’s bond is tight. And so is the sibling bond. Big sister is a big protector. She helped Camille make the transition to high school ball and she’s got her back on the court.
"She’s my little sister and I feel like I have to support her through everything," Camryn said.
"I really like playing with her," Camille said. "She’s been like my best friend since I was first born.
Younger sis can thank her big sis for getting her into volleyball. Camryn had been focused on dancing before a volleyball camp in the fifth grade sucked her into the sport.
"I knew I’d make a lot of friendships throughout the seasons and everything," Camryn said. "And that’s what really drove me to volleyball. I love this sport. This is what I want to do, like, for the rest of my life.
And she gets to share it with her sister. Now, about that favorite comment.
"I was just kidding," Camille said. "I’m don’t think I’m the favorite. My parents love us both equally."
