“You’re only in high school for four years so you better get the best of it while you can,” she said.
Madison redefines making the best of a situation. She is definitely cramming the most out of her high school experience. Not only is she a member of five Bulldogs teams, she is also the school president and ranks third in her class with one of the highest GPAs.
“It’s possible to be a good athlete and a scholar and a good human being and have a social life all at the same time,” girls soccer coach Katie Jeffcott said. “It really does show these kids that maybe I can play three sports at one time and keep my grades up.”
How does she balance it all? Madison admits to a lot of late nights. She always manages to find a way because she knows the end result is worth it.
“On bus rides, I’ll do my homework,” Madison said. “I’ll stay up really late to try and do my homework. Or wake up really early in the morning to finish my homework. Yeah.”
Sports is the backbone of Madison’s high school career because she gets something out of sports that she doesn’t get from other aspects of her life.
“Gives me those life skills to persevere through rough things and put that behind me and get ready for the next thing,” she said.
Her energy is setting her up for life.
“I just hope I really get to follow her along in the next journey because she’s going places and I can be like, 'Madison Poe, yeah, I coached her,'” Jeffcott said.
The dream for Madison is go to medical school and become a dermatologist.
She’ll graduate from Zephyrhills High with no regrets. With none of that…
“Oh I wish I did that,” she said. “Because I experienced everything I possibly could.”
