“Pushing yourself every single day, you’re out here just testing your heart out, see how much you can handle” he said. “The skies the limit.”
He is our latest Spectrum Bay News 9 Scholar Athlete.
The Hurricanes senior is a four-year varsity letterman in both cross country and track and has qualified for states in both sports since his junior year.
“I knew I was more of a distance guy, so I kind of just, during the offseason, I did a bunch of races over the offseason, got my training up and I soon figured out the mile is my best event.”
His mother, Karen, is the head cross country coach and has a hand in working with him every day.
“This year in cross country, he led his team to the county championship, to the conference championship and on to state,” she said.
Tyler has been just as a good off the track, with a 3.5 GPA. He plans on continuing to run in junior college and later move on to a four-year university with an eye on studying business.
His goals for his senior season of high school are simple.
“I don’t train to get second, I want to win,” he said. “You know, that’s why I’m out here every single day, run every single day.”
