It’s a sound that’s becoming more and more popular around Florida, but step onto a court and you realize this is not a tennis league, welcome to the sport of Pickelball.

Pickelball leagues in the city of St.Pete like the one at Cresent Lake Park on Tuesday's and Thursday's have really taken off, and since the pandemic this 60 year old sport has seen a big surge, becoming the fastest growing sport in the country.

In just one year, St.Pete has had more then 100 teams sign up to play the sport and it has forced the city to create a second site for the weekly league. The Sport uses a solid racket and combines the elements of table tennis, badminton and tennis.

The game has attracted players of all ages and skill level and has become a great form of exercise.

It’s clear, whether it’s a weekly league like the ones here in St.Pete, or the pro events you can watch on TV, this sport invented back in 1965 is much more than a fad and it looks like it's hear to stay.
