INVERNESS, Fla. — Baseball just fits like a glove for Shyanne Stuebe.

She’s comfortable behind the plate, at the plate, in the dugout — anywhere on a baseball field, Stuebe is at home.

“It’s kind of different than anything else,” she said.

What You Need To Know

  •  Shyanne Stuebe tried softball and football, but baseball gives her something the other sports didn't

  •  The Inverness teenager will play with her Baseball For All team in Japan this summer

  •  Dick's Sporting Goods gifted Shyanne all new gear after her mother's car was stolen with all of her baseball equipment inside

She tried softball. She even tried football. But there was just something about the pull of baseball that she didn’t find in the other sports.

“It’s always competitive. It’s individual, and it’s team,” Stuebe said. “It’s just always been my favorite.”

Baseball is taking Stuebe places. She’s the Florida representative on her Baseball For All team that will play in Japan. She’ll be bringing some brand new equipment with her — an example of it takes a village.

On June 10, someone stole her mother’s car with all of her gear inside of it. When an employee at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Ocala found out, they gifted Stuebe everything she will need to play in Japan. The only thing they asked in return was some photos from her playing experience.

Stuebe misses her old bat. It was red, white and blue. But she’s breaking her new one in. She’ll be taking her gear and a renewed sense of the goodness in people with her overseas.

“I think it’s awesome,” she said. “I think those people over there are great and that they really are just true to wanting to help youth sports.”
