DOVER, Fla. — Caleigh Ross can pump up a crowd.

This Strawberry Crest senior takes her cheerleading seriously and it shows.

What You Need To Know

  •  The Strawberry Crest Chargers recently closed out the competitive cheer season with their 10th state championship.

  •  They also won their second National Championship.

  •  Caleigh Ross is a senior captain on the team and big reason why Strawberry Crest is one of the top cheer programs in the country.

Caleigh spent a good chunk of her high school years perfecting her craft. And that hard work and dedication has created a lot of exceptional memories.

“Through these hardships we’ve kind of found ourself and how we work together as a team and it’s just created something special this year,” Caleigh said.

Strawberry Crest’s cheerleading team knows special. The Chargers recently wrapped up their competitive cheer season by winning their 10th state championship. There’s a high standard and a high level of expectations when you cheer at Strawberry Crest.

“We have long practices,” Caleigh said. “We have two hour practices and during the entirety of the practices everybody just kind of wants to get out onto the floor and rep more. We put in the extra work even outside of practice.”

That work ethic paid off this season. For the second time in school history, the Chargers co-ed team was crowned national champions. Caleigh and her teammates have replayed the winning moment over and over and over again. That two-and-half minute routine gave them memories for a lifetime.

That routine serves as a reminder of why they do what they do. Most of these Chargers began cheering at a young age. Like many who get into the sport, Caleigh started in gymnastics. But cheerleading gave her something that gymnastics did not.

“Having that team as a bond, just having everyone around me and creating those special friendships just meant so much to me,” Caleigh said. “And I just couldn’t get away from that.”
