TAMPA, Fla. — When you make history, you get to celebrate.
And the Carrollwood Day School boys soccer team has been celebrating.
The Patriots made school history when they won a state title.
“This was a really tight-knit group of guys,” senior Juan Garanton said.
That close bond resulted in gold and Carrollwood Day School’s first boys team state championship. It also created memories for a lifetime for these players who have loved rewatching the highlights from their big win.
“We’ve all known this is where we’ve wanted to get to and being able to do it, and making history for the school is an amazing feeling,” Garanton said.
Garanton has been working towards this goal for nearly his entire life. The Carrollwood Day senior began playing soccer at a very young age. And it was love at first kick. In fact, he can’t remember a time when he didn’t love soccer. It’s a sport that’s taught him a lot about himself.
“Definitely a lot of friendships I’ve gotten from soccer, a lot of bonds that will last the rest of my life, you know my teammates, my coaches,” he said. “And you get you get taught a lot of values from it.”
And in his case, you get the opportunity to play at the next level. He’s committed to Bucknell University, and his state championship experience has set him up for college.
He scored a goal in the title game, his team leading 21st of the season. All the hours of practice, the sacrifices, paid off in a big way.
“We worked together toward that state championship,” he said. “We all knew what we wanted to achieve, and we worked for the guy next to us and that helped us in the games a lot.”
