TAMPA, Fla. — When it comes to his favorite sport, there are so many things Jack Clark loves about baseball.
But mostly, he says it's because what goes down on the field is bigger than the game.
“You can fail one day, succeed the next,” he said. “It just clicked right for me.”
Those kinds of life lessons began at an early age for Jack. He used to tag along with his mom and older sisters to the Tampa Bay Little League field. He said that’s where his love for baseball first began.
“I’ve been playing this my whole life, almost, so I really don’t know much better,” Jack said. “I don’t know any other sports besides baseball.”
His passion and commitment to the game are paying off this season. Jack and his Tigers teammates won their second-straight Saladino Tournament championship in early March. Jack earned MVP honors after he batted 7-for-13 in the tournament.
“Just winning gave our whole team confidence," he said. "That, I mean, we have what it takes to win a championship. We just have to prove ourselves."
Jack has committed to play at High Point University in North Carolina after graduation. But first, he said he'd like to cap off his senior season with a state championship.
He’s soaking in every second of his final high school season after batting back from various injuries, including a broken foot last year and a finger injury in the fall. Each time, he’s gained a greater appreciation for the game.
“I’ve learned to always just keep on pushing,” he said. “You always have another chance to prove yourself and succeed.”
