ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Taking a trip down memory lane can lead to lots of laughs.
Dan Dineen and Dave Parlagreco had not looked through their high school yearbook in decades.
Dan was voted Most Quiet, while Dave earned the distinction as Class Brain. The two met at Frankfort Schuyler Central High School in upstate New York and have been best friends ever since.
“There he is on the cross country team — look at that handsome beast,” Dave said.
They’ve been in each other’s weddings and they’ve been on vacations together, where baseball stadiums were popular destinations.
“One year we went to the West Coast. One year we went to the Northeast. One year we went to the Midwest,” Dan said. “We just thought, why don’t we do it all.”
And that’s how Central High’s Quietest Man and the Class Brain devised a plan to visit 30 Major League Baseball stadiums in 60 days. It was a road trip for the ages, and for baseball buddies.
“People were excited about it. Especially when you get later into the trip,” Dave said. “When you’re in stadium four, it’s kind of, 'Oh you guys aren’t doing this.' When you say, I’m on stadium 27, now they know it’s a real thing.”
The dynamic duo documented their travels with videos from each stop. They ranked each stadium judging the visit on food, cost and vibes. They were surprised by how friendly everyone was and said fans at each stadium seemed to appreciate their love of baseball and their adventurous spirit.
After driving all over the country, Dan and Dave’s final stop was Tropicana Field. The Baltimore Orioles and a Chicago Cubs fans took in the Rays versus Boston Red Sox game. It marked the end of a bucket list, but the continuation of a friendship bonded through baseball.
“It says it’s stood the test of time,” Dave said. “I was in his wedding. He’s been in my weddings, godfather to his child. You know, all that stuff. It’s solid.”
